Abstract
The prognosis and clinical evolution of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) are heterogeneous. Recently new prognostic markers such as CD38 and ZAP-70 are applied together with the standard prognostic factors. In this work we have studied the positive expression of CD38 in 52 CLL patients. The expression of ZAP-70 is determined by flow cytometry analysis in 20 patients. Among them 24 of 52 had high CD38 expression, 62.5% of them in progressive stages of CLL. Overall time before starting treatment of patients without CD38 expression was 33.2 months and for CD38 positive patients it was 16.3 months. Positive expression of ZAP-70 was diagnosed in 20% of studied patients, 75% of those in progressive stages of CLL. Statistically significant relationship was found between the positive CD38 and ZAP-70 expression and the progressive stage of CLL. The positive CD38 expression is correlated with shorter treatment free interval.
