    Abstract

Introduction: The aim of this study was to call back the diagnostic traps and the recommendations for treatment of a retroperitoneal mass. Methods: A review of the literature was conducted using following keywords: retroperitoneal mass, network, diagnostic, recommendations, surgery. Results: Invasion of contiguous organs, abdominal symptoms or endocrine syndrome can evoke an extra-renal histology. Thoraco-abdomino-pelvic computerized tomography (CT) is the standard imagery. Hormonal dosages are necessary in case of adrenal origin. Retroperitoneal coaxial biopsy is recommended with freezing and pathological verification. The surgical resection with negative margins should be planned according to pathology findings, with avoiding an incomplete resection or effraction, which could impact on patient's survival. Conclusion: Retroperitoneal extra-renal tumors are rare tumors which prognosis is directly related to diagnostic procedure and initial management.
