Abstract

Because it has a role in lymphocyte activation, interleukin 2 (IL-2) has been tried as a therapeutic agent in several types of immune dysfunction in animals and man. Here, Georg Wick and his colleagues discuss the possibility that IL-2 production initiates and perpetuates autoimmune disease, and express caution about the clinical use of IL-2.
