N2 - In the oncological context, the hospital pharmacist is responsible for the pharmaceutical analysis and validation of chemotherapies’ prescriptions, which involves verifying therapeutic indications and drug doses. The pharmacist furthermore ensures adherence to chemotherapy protocols as prescribed by a multidisciplinary care team and verifies that patients’ haematological criteria allow them to begin receiving chemotherapies safely. However, pharmacists who have just completed their university studies seldom have appropriate training in pharmaceutical validation, especially in paediatric oncology. The present work aims to develop a pedagogical guide to support the pharmacist in the validation of chemotherapy for the treatment of rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). The first phase consisted of a systematic review of prior research on hospital pharmacists’ or pharmacy students’ training in oncology and/or paediatrics, which yielded two training guides for pharmacists, none of which dealt with the pharmaceutical validation of paediatric chemotherapies. In the second phase, data were collected from pharmacists employed in 16 European hospitals and in 1 Canadian hospital to understand how new pharmacists and resident students were trained in chemotherapy validation: it was revealed that the hospitals did not develop pedagogical tools, although some of them offered training in the form of standard operating procedures (SOPs). In the final phase of this work, a questionnaire was submitted to the pharmacists of the pharmacy department of the Gustave Roussy Cancer Campus to obtain data regarding the preferred format of the pedagogical tool and the desired information to be included therein. This approach led to the development of a guide in both PDF and paper formats with information about physiopathology, chemotherapy protocols, and dosage regimens.
