Résumé
Angiographic management of bleeding can be useful in several territories. Its efficacy is enhanced if the site of the haemorrhage has been accurately localized either by another exmination before the procedure or by arteriography immediately prior to embolization. The aggressiveness of the embolization, which is determinant in its efficacy but also in its potential risks, can be modulated according to the type of injected embolism, the extent of the embolized territory and its location. Liver and lung are the most suitable organs for embolization owing to their dual vascular feeding, as well as the stomach because of the numerous anastomoses between its feeding arteries. Thus hemobilia and untractable gastric bleeding are excellent indications. Numerous indications are also found in the pelvis: avoiding hysterectomy for post-partum bleeding, stopping haemorrhages in the bladder and rectum after radiotherapy.
