Résumé
Sarcomas are rare, and heterogeneous cancers and their management is complex and not optimal for the majority of patients. The three key elements of the management are an accurate diagnosis, a multidisciplinary discussion in a specialized MTB, and a surgery performed in a trained team. In order to significantly improve the management of patients, three pathological and clinical national networks dedicated to sarcoma/GIST/desmoid, and gathering regional expert centers were structured in 2010 with the support of the French National Institute against Cancer (INCa) and the Directorate of Health Care Supply (DGOS) (e.g., the networks RRePS, NetSarc, and ResOs). A shared database has been implemented with the aim to collect different indicators of management quality and to follow their evolution nationwide. Five years later, the three networks cover between 73 and 91% of 4,000 expected new patients yearly. This care network organization facilitates access to pathology and clinical expertise to patients, a better initial management (imaging, biopsy), a better quality of surgery, and a better access to innovative treatments. It also structures research, optimize the use of diagnostic techniques and the instruction for expensive treatments, and standardize the management of data collection and follow-up nationwide.
