Management of the hospitalized patients for an interventional radiology (IR) treatment

The objective of the professional recommendations for “the management of the hospitalized patients for an interventional radiology (IR) treatment” is to propose a methodology to help practitioners to perform the most appropriate care in IR. These recommendations aim to define good management practices, to harmonize professional practices and to improve the quality of care. Their objective is to describe the modalities in accordance with the requirements of “good medical practice” for both diagnostic and therapeutic intervention, should be performed in an “ideal” manner during full hospitalization. These recommendations are based on existing data from the literature produced by scientific societies–HAS, SFICV, SFR, CIRCE and INCa–and are adapted to practice in France. These recommendations are validated by a group of experts from SFR, CERF and the Professional Council of Radiology. They describe the methods for patient pathway during hospitalization for performing an IR intervention: therapeutic planning, specificities related to interventional oncology, considerations concerning the intervention by itself, pain management, surveillance, follow-up, medical responsibility during the patient journey, traceability of actions and prescriptions in the patient file, relations with other care stakeholder including paramedics, other doctors, written documents from the medical file, necessary material and personnel resources and organizational constraints.
