Résumé
Hypopharyngeal carcinomas are very common in France. When tumour invades the cervical oesophagus or the posterior wall, as well as in case of retrocricoïd carcinomas, circular pharyngolaryngectomy is necessary. Since 1970 many procedures have been performed for pharyngoesophageal reconstruction. In 2004, four procedures are utilized for this reconstruction: the U-Shaped pectoralis major myocutaneous flap, the radial forearm flap, the gastric tube transposition, and reconstruction with free revascularized jejunal transplant. The selection of the reconstruction procedure is based on the hospital mortality and morbidity, the quality of swallowing, the quality of neopharyngoesophageal speech, and the experience of the surgical team.
